VisitOngoing IRGC-Linked Iranian Hackers Target Trump and Biden Campaigns, Google Confirms
Aug 14, 2024, 09:00 PM
Google has confirmed that Iranian-linked hackers have been targeting the email accounts of individuals associated with the Trump and Biden presidential campaigns. This ongoing and wide-ranging hacking effort is linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and has targeted personal accounts of current and former U.S. government officials. The hacking group, identified as APT42, has been active since May and June, attempting to breach the campaigns. Google's Threat Analysis Group has been actively working to thwart these attempts, which are part of a broader effort by Iranian hackers to disrupt the U.S. presidential election process. Notably, a Gmail account belonging to a high-profile political consultant, possibly Roger Stone, was compromised.
