VisitOne Dead as DHL Boeing 737-400 Crashes into Home Near Vilnius Airport; Terrorism Not Ruled Out
Nov 25, 2024, 07:20 AM
A DHL cargo plane flying from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius, Lithuania, crashed early Monday morning near Vilnius Airport. The plane, a Boeing 737-400 operated by Swiftair for DHL, crashed into a two-story residential building in Liepkalnis around 5:30 a.m., sparking a massive fire. Four people were on board: two pilots and two DHL staff. At least one person was killed, and three others were injured. The pilot was freed from the cockpit but later died. Lithuanian authorities do not rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack as the cause of the crash. Emergency crews, including fire trucks and a command team from Vilnius Airport, are on-site. No residents in the house were injured. The crash did not disrupt airport operations.
