VisitOne Dead, 23 Rescued After Elevator Malfunction at Pikes Peak Gold Mine

A tragic incident occurred at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine near Cripple Creek, Colorado, on Pikes Peak, where an elevator malfunction left one person dead and 23 others trapped 1,000 feet underground. The malfunction happened during a tour of the historic mine. Rescue operations were successfully conducted, and all 23 trapped individuals were safely brought to the surface after approximately seven hours. Four people sustained injuries in the incident. Authorities, including the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, coordinated the rescue efforts. Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed relief at the successful rescue and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
