Olympic organizers have faced significant challenges with the triathlon events scheduled for the Paris 2024 Games due to pollution in the River Seine. Heavy rains over the weekend caused millions of gallons of sewage to enter the river, leading to high levels of E. coli bacteria. As a result, triathlon swim training sessions were canceled for two consecutive days, and the men's triathlon race, originally set for Tuesday, was postponed to Wednesday. Despite a $1.5 billion (€1.4bn) investment to clean up the Seine, the water quality remained unsafe until recent tests showed lower bacteria levels. Organizers have now given the green light for both the men's and women's triathlon races to proceed on Wednesday. The women's triathletes were the first to dive into the Seine, marking a significant moment as swimming in the river has been illegal for over a century. World Triathlon emphasized that the decision was made to protect the health of athletes.
