VisitOhtani Wins Third Unanimous MVP, First DH, First 50-50 Season
Nov 21, 2024, 11:57 PM
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers has won the 2024 National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, his third career MVP and second in a row. Ohtani is the second player in Major League Baseball (MLB) history to win MVP awards in both the American League (AL) and National League (NL), joining Frank Robinson. He became the first designated hitter (DH) to ever win the MVP award. Ohtani had a historic season, leading the NL with 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, a .310 batting average, and 59 stolen bases, making him the first player to achieve a 50-50 season. He was unanimously selected as MVP for the third time, an achievement unmatched in MLB history, as no other player in MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL history has more than one unanimous MVP in their career. Furthermore, Ohtani is the 12th player to win three or more MVP awards and the 18th to win back-to-back MVP honors.
