Sep 27, 2024, 04:27 PM
New York City Mayor Eric Adams pleaded not guilty on Friday to federal charges of bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and campaign finance violations in a packed courtroom in Lower Manhattan. Adams is accused of accepting more than $100,000 in illegal gifts and bribes, including lavish gifts from Turkish nationals, in exchange for using his political influence to benefit Turkey. During the arraignment, Adams declared, 'I am not guilty, Your Honor.' If convicted, he could face a lengthy prison sentence of up to 45 years. The indictment follows months of investigations, searches, and subpoenas that have roiled the nation's largest city.
