VisitNYC Mayor Adams Considers GOP Return, Will Work with Trump on Immigration, Dares Critics: "Cancel Me!"
Dec 6, 2024, 02:26 PM
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has not ruled out rejoining the Republican Party. In interviews with various news outlets, including NY1 and PIX11 News, when asked whether he would consider rejoining the GOP, Adams emphasized that the "party that's most important for me is the American party" and declared his love for the country. Adams, who was a Republican from 1997 to 2001, has made statements suggesting he is willing to work with former President Donald Trump and former ICE Director Tom Homan to address illegal immigration in New York City. He challenged his party and critics by saying "Cancel me!" in response to potential backlash. Despite the speculation, Adams stated, "I am going to run for my reelection as a Democrat but my focus is the American people and the people of NYC." Some Democratic council members have noted that Adams has been aligning himself with GOP members of the City Council.
