Jan 8, 2025, 09:02 AM
Nvidia and MediaTek have announced a collaboration to develop a new 20-core Arm-based desktop CPU, which was unveiled as part of Nvidia's $3,000 Project DIGITS AI computer at CES 2025. The CPU, co-designed by both companies, is aimed at providing energy efficiency and broader market availability. MediaTek will have the ability to sell the CPU independently, while Nvidia plans to use it to target AI developers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hinted at undisclosed plans for the CPU, emphasizing its potential to bridge the gap between Linux and Windows operating systems using Microsoft's Windows Subsystem for Linux. Project DIGITS, powered by Nvidia's Blackwell AI chip, is designed for AI developers and runs on a Linux-based operating system. Huang also highlighted the CPU's potential as a mainstream product in the future.
