VisitNorthern Kosovo Serbs Boycott Invalid Referendum on Ethnic Albanian Mayors
Apr 21, 2024, 02:25 PM
In Northern Kosovo, residents of four Serb-majority municipalities participated in a referendum to decide whether to remove their ethnic Albanian mayors, following last year's mayoral elections. The vote, which took place on Sunday, saw a significant boycott by the Serb community, encouraged by the Serb List party. The municipalities involved were Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Zvecan, and North Mitrovica, with turnout figures showing minimal participation: Leposavic with 122 votes, Zubin Potok with 17 votes, Zvecan with 0 votes, and North Mitrovica with 64 votes. A majority of over 50% of registered voters was required to remove the mayors, and the election was deemed invalid due to lack of turnout.
