North Korea has announced that it will completely cut off all road and rail links to South Korea starting October 9, 2024. The decision, reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), is described as a military step to permanently seal its border with South Korea. This move is seen as an escalation of tensions related to ongoing military drills and the presence of U.S. nuclear assets in the region. North Korea has also stated that it will fortify areas on its side of the border to bolster its defensive posture, citing self-defence and confrontational hysteria by South Korean and U.S. forces.
