Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's army-backed interim government following the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid widespread student-led protests. The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which played a key role in the demonstrations, proposed Yunus for the position. Yunus, aged 84 and known for his pioneering work in microcredit and microfinance, has expressed his willingness to lead the caretaker interim government. The appointment comes as the country faces significant political unrest and the dissolution of its parliament. President Shahabuddin's office confirmed the appointment, which has been widely supported by the protestors.
