VisitNo. 2 Seed Coco Gauff Eliminated from Paris Olympics by Donna Vekic 7-6 (7), 6-2
Jul 30, 2024, 01:05 PM
American tennis star Coco Gauff, the No. 2 seed, was eliminated from the women's singles tennis tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics after a controversial match against Croatia's Donna Vekic. Vekic defeated Gauff in straight sets, 7-6 (7), 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. The match was marked by a disputed line call in the second set, which led to an extended argument between Gauff and the chair umpire. Gauff, who was visibly upset and in tears, claimed she was 'cheated' by the call. Vekic saved three set points in the first set. Despite the loss, Gauff is still scheduled to compete in doubles and mixed doubles for Team USA.
