VisitNHTSA Seeks Tesla Model 3, Model Y Records in Power Steering Probe, Investigates Zoox Crash Risks
May 31, 2024, 01:13 PM
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking records from Tesla as part of its investigation into power steering loss in Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The auto safety regulator upgraded its investigation in February and has requested Tesla to provide records by July 24 regarding steering components, complaint records, and information on identifying field issues and implementing countermeasures. In a letter dated Tuesday, NHTSA detailed its demands. Additionally, NHTSA has opened an investigation into Amazon-owned self-driving Zoox vehicles, which may pose crash risks. The agency is seeking more information after receiving reports of Zoox autonomous vehicles suddenly braking and getting rear-ended by motorcycles.
