NHTSA Investigates Alphabet's Waymo After 22 Self-Driving Car Incidents

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into Alphabet's Waymo following multiple incidents involving its self-driving vehicles. The probe covers an estimated 444 vehicles and follows 22 reports of incidents, including 17 collisions. US auto safety regulators indicate that Waymo's robotaxis have exhibited unexpected behavior, such as entering construction sites, blocking traffic, or driving in the wrong lane. The investigation aims to assess the performance and safety of Waymo's autonomous driving technology.
