VisitNFL to Allow Optional Guardian Caps in 2024, After 52% Concussion Decrease
Apr 26, 2024, 08:53 PM
The NFL, under the guidance of Dr. Allen Sills and Jeff Miller, Executive VP of health and safety, has announced a significant policy change for the 2024 season, allowing players to wear Guardian Caps during games. This decision comes after the league previously prohibited their use in games just a year earlier. Guardian Caps, which are soft-shell helmet covers, have been shown to reduce the severity of impact blows to the head by about 10 percent and have been linked to a 52% decrease in concussions among players at certain positions. The caps will be optional for players and can feature team logos. The decision was influenced by a decrease in concussions observed during training camp.
