VisitNFL Faces Financial Impact After $4.7 Billion Ruling in Sunday Ticket Antitrust Lawsuit
Jul 8, 2024, 01:00 PM
The NFL faces significant financial implications following a $4.7 billion ruling against it in the federal antitrust class-action lawsuit over the Sunday Ticket. This verdict, which could reshape the NFL's revenue model, is expected to have far-reaching effects on other leagues that have media deals. Despite this setback, the NFL's financial health remains robust, with national revenue reaching $13 billion in 2023. Each of the 32 NFL teams received over $400 million from shared TV, sponsorships, and merchandise, marking a 115% increase over the past decade. Additionally, NFL teams operate with an annual profit of around $100 million before ticket sales and other game-day revenues. Unlike MLB and NHL, which settled and lowered prices to avert class-action trials, the NFL went to trial and lost.
