Sep 26, 2024, 07:48 PM
Newsmax has reached a confidential settlement with Smartmatic, an election technology company, resolving a $600 million defamation lawsuit over false claims that Smartmatic rigged the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The settlement was achieved on September 26, 2024, on the opening day of the trial in Delaware Superior Court. Newsmax released a statement announcing it had resolved the litigation brought by Smartmatic through a confidential settlement. Smartmatic commented, 'Lying to the American people has consequences.' The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The settlement allows Newsmax to avoid a high-stakes trial and resolves one of several defamation cases filed by Smartmatic against conservative media outlets.
