VisitNew York Reports First Human Case of EEE Since 2015 in Ulster County
Sep 21, 2024, 02:42 AM
New York State has reported its first human case of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in nearly a decade, since 2015. The individual, who resides in Ulster County, has been hospitalized. This is the eleventh case of EEE reported in the United States this year, with cases also recorded in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. EEE is a serious mosquito-borne illness that can cause fatal or long-term neurological problems and has no vaccine. Health officials emphasize the need for continued caution against mosquito-borne diseases despite cooler temperatures.
