A terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day claimed the lives of 15 individuals, including a British citizen identified as Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old from Chelsea, London. The attack occurred in the city's French Quarter, with the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, driving a truck into crowds before exiting the vehicle and opening fire. Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen and Army veteran from Texas, was subsequently killed by police. An Islamic State flag was found in the vehicle, and explosive devices were discovered nearby. Among the victims were Kareem Badawi, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Alabama, and Drew Dauphin, a 2023 graduate of Auburn University. The attack also injured 35 others, with one victim, Parker Vidrine, a former classmate of Badawi, remaining in critical condition.
