VisitNetflix Summoned by Indian Government Over 'IC 814' Series Controversy on Hijackers' Hindu Names
Sep 2, 2024, 07:08 AM
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned Netflix India's Head of Content over the controversy surrounding the web series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. The series, directed by Anubhav Sinha, has faced backlash on social media for allegedly altering the names of the hijackers involved in the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight by the Pakistan-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, to Hindu names such as Bhola and Shankar, instead of their real names. This has led to calls for boycotting Netflix and criticism from historians who accuse the series of glorifying terrorists and distorting facts. The government seeks clarification from Netflix on the matter, with a meeting scheduled for September 3.
