Syria's new authorities have conducted a crackdown resulting in nearly 300 arrests of individuals loyal to ousted former president Bashar al-Assad. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the arrests, which include former soldiers, pro-regime fighters, and informants, occurred in various locations including Damascus, Homs, Hama, Tartus, Latakia, and Deir Ezzor over the course of less than a week. Some detainees are reported to have been executed. This operation reflects a broader effort by the current authorities to target remnants of the Assad regime.
