VisitNATO to Conduct Steadfast Noon Nuclear Exercise with Over 60 Aircraft Amid Growing Russian Threat
Oct 12, 2024, 07:23 AM
NATO is set to conduct its annual nuclear exercise, Steadfast Noon, next week, involving over 60 aircraft in training flights over Western Europe. This exercise comes in response to the growing threat from Russia, which has been increasingly aggressive towards Ukraine and its Western backers. Concurrently, NATO defense ministers are preparing to meet to discuss a major review of the alliance's multi-year policy towards Russia. This will be the first time in over 25 years that NATO will reassess its relationship with Russia, aiming to develop a new strategy to address the evolving threat. The discussions will consider the NATO-Russia Founding Act, according to Politico. France is also preparing to deploy thousands of troops to Romania for the Dacian Spring 25 drills to improve readiness in case of a potential Russian attack on a NATO ally. A senior U.S. official emphasized the need to craft a new strategy for the alliance's specific positions.
