The Washington Nationals have acquired first baseman Nathaniel Lowe from the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia. The trade has been officially announced by both teams. Lowe, 29, has been one of the most effective first basemen in recent seasons, posting strong offensive and defensive numbers. He won a Gold Glove in 2023 and a Silver Slugger award. In 2022, he hit 27 home runs and has a career OPS+ of 120. Last year, he slugged .400 and recorded 16 home runs along with 7 Outs Above Average defensively. Lowe's advanced metrics in 2024 include a 97th percentile walk rate, 72nd percentile whiff rate, 82nd percentile chase rate, 84th percentile bat value, and 80th percentile glove value. He is under team control for two more years and is projected to earn $10.7 million this season. Robert Garcia, heading to the Rangers, is a left-handed reliever with team control until 2029. The trade addresses needs for both teams, with the Nationals strengthening their infield and the Rangers adding depth to their bullpen.
