VisitNASCAR Fines Wallace, Dillon, Chastain $100K; Suspends Nine Team Members for Race Manipulation
Nov 7, 2024, 01:00 PM
NASCAR has issued significant penalties totaling $600,000 in fines and suspending nine team members from three teams—Trackhouse Racing (No. 1 car), Richard Childress Racing (No. 3 car), and 23XI Racing (No. 23 car)—for alleged race manipulation during the Martinsville race. Drivers Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, and Ross Chastain were each fined $100,000, docked 50 driver points, and their teams received points deductions amounting to 300 points in total. NASCAR's Elton Sawyer emphasized that future incidents could result in even harsher penalties, potentially including driver suspensions, stating, "We will include drivers in this, if we have to. This is something that's not going to be tolerated." The affected teams initially planned to appeal the penalties; however, 23XI Racing decided against it, Richard Childress Racing withdrew its appeal, and Trackhouse Racing's appeal was denied.
