The FBI has shown little action on this potential threat, leaving lawmakers furious at the federal inaction. Governor Phil Murphy has described the drones as 'very sophisticated,' noting their ability to go dark when spotted. The U.S. military has denied any involvement with the drones, and security experts speculate on the origins and intentions behind these flights, with some suggesting they could be Chinese-made drones used for surveillance. A New Jersey police officer reported observing 50 drones coming in from the ocean, and a Coast Guard ship was followed by between 12 and 30 drones.
