VisitMyanmar Rebels Claim Victory Near Bangladesh Border, Seize Key Military Sites in Mandalay Region
Aug 29, 2024, 10:38 AM
Myanmar rebels have reported significant victories against junta forces, claiming that victory is near after a battle near the Bangladesh border, where they say 100 junta soldiers were killed and dozens captured. The MDY-PDF resistance fighters have seized control of the entire north of the Mandalay region, where they are being welcomed as heroes by local residents. The Arakan Army now controls the largest territory of any non-state armed group in Myanmar. Additionally, the TNLA and other resistance forces have reportedly captured the Taung-Hkam-based 902nd Tactical Artillery Command, as well as the 206th and 406th Artillery Battalions near Pyin Oo Lwin. Insurgents in Rakhine are closing in on a crucial junta naval base, prompting military authorities in neighboring regions to organize civil defense teams in anticipation of further rebel advances.
