VisitMurdoch's Dow Jones and New York Post Sue Perplexity AI Over 'Content Kleptocracy'
Oct 21, 2024, 05:10 PM
Dow Jones & Company, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, and the New York Post have filed a lawsuit against AI startup Perplexity AI, alleging massive copyright infringement. The media outlets claim that Perplexity has engaged in a 'massive amount of illegal copying' of their copyrighted content, referring to the situation as a 'content kleptocracy'. The lawsuit alleges that Perplexity has been using their content without permission, including scraping stories and reproducing them through its generative AI search engine. The lawsuit was filed after Perplexity allegedly failed to respond to a July 2024 letter addressing copyright concerns. News Corp CEO Robert Thomson commented on the lawsuit.
