VisitMorgan Geyser Granted Conditional Release to Group Home by Judge Michael Bohren in Waukesha County Slender Man Case
Jan 10, 2025, 03:33 AM
Morgan Geyser, now 22, who was convicted of stabbing her classmate Payton Leutner 19 times in 2014 at the age of 12 to please the fictional character Slender Man, has been granted conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute by Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren. Geyser, who has been at the facility for nearly seven years since her 2018 commitment, had her fourth petition for release approved after a hearing where three psychologists testified to her progress in managing her mental health, including early-onset schizophrenia. They noted that she had maximized her treatment options at the facility and is no longer considered a safety risk. The judge ordered the state Department of Health Services to develop a plan for her supervised release to a group home within 60 days. Geyser has been weaned off her anti-psychotic medications and no longer exhibits psychotic symptoms, though she continues to experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and autism. Her co-assailant, Anissa Weier, was previously released in 2021 following a 2021 suicide attempt by Geyser.
