The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal under the Modi 3.0 administration. This decision follows the recommendations of a high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The proposal aims to synchronize the elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to a single schedule. The implementation will occur in two phases, with the first phase involving simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. This initiative is expected to reduce electoral expenses and logistical challenges, while also enhancing the efficiency of the electoral process and contributing to economic growth. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the approval, highlighting widespread support for the proposal. The bill is likely to be introduced in the Winter Session of Parliament.
