VisitModerna Secures $176 Million from US Government and BARDA for H5N1 Bird Flu Vaccine Development
Jul 2, 2024, 12:19 PM
Moderna has been awarded $176 million by the US government to accelerate the development of an mRNA-based pandemic influenza vaccine. The funding comes through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), under BARDA's Rapid Response Partnership Vehicle Consortium. This initiative aims to address the growing threat of bird flu, particularly the H5N1 virus, which has recently caused a multi-state outbreak in dairy cows and infected three dairy workers since March.
