VisitMOD Exonerates Welsh Guards Over 1982 Sir Galahad Bombing
May 18, 2024, 07:25 AM
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has exonerated the Welsh Guards from blame over the bombing of the Sir Galahad during the Falklands War in 1982. Secret files declassified and seen by the BBC reveal that the regiment, which suffered the biggest loss of British life in the conflict, was not responsible for the deaths. This exoneration is an important step for Falklands veterans and their families, many of whom have campaigned for years to clear the regiment's name. MPs and campaigners, including constituent Mike Hermanis, have expressed relief and gratitude for the release of these documents, which finally lay to rest an unjust myth about the war.
