VisitMitsubishi UFJ Fires Employee for Stealing ¥2 Billion from 60 Customers at Two Branches

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group has terminated an employee who allegedly stole over ¥2 billion ($13 million) from the safe deposit boxes of approximately 60 customers. The thefts, which took place over a period of about four and a half years from April 2020 to October 2024, affected customers at two branches of the bank, Nerima Branch in Tokyo's Nerima Ward and Tamagawa Branch in Setagaya Ward. The total value of the stolen assets, including cash and precious metals, is estimated to be in the billions of yen.
