VisitMinnesota, New Jersey Sue Glock Over $20 Device Converting Handguns to Machine Guns
Dec 12, 2024, 07:29 PM
The attorneys general of Minnesota and New Jersey have initiated legal action against Glock Inc., alleging that the company's handguns can be easily converted into illegal machine guns using a $20 device known as a 'Glock switch.' These modifications allow the pistols to fire at a rate of 1,200 rounds per minute, significantly increasing the risk to public safety. The lawsuits claim that Glock has been aware of this issue for decades but has not altered its design to prevent such modifications. The legal actions, brought in conjunction with the national gun control group Giffords, seek court orders to force Glock to redesign its handguns for safety, disgorge profits, and pay restitution. This marks the first legal move by a coalition of 15 states and the District of Columbia aimed at reducing gun violence through state civil liability and consumer protection laws.
