VisitMinisters Explore Plans to Hand Ownership of 364 Year-Old Post Office to Sub-Postmasters Amid Horizon IT Scandal
Oct 20, 2024, 07:26 AM
Ministers are exploring plans to transfer ownership of the 364 year-old Post Office to thousands of sub-postmasters across Britain. The government has enlisted consulting firm BCG to assess the viability of mutualising the Post Office, which would see a significant stake in the state-owned company handed over to sub-postmasters. This move comes in the wake of the Horizon IT scandal, which has highlighted the need for greater local control and involvement in the running of the Post Office. Shadow business secretary Kevin Hollinrake has expressed that postmasters feel the Post Office is currently run with too much central command and control, and they need more say in its operations.
