VisitMicrosoft Makes Windows 11 'Recall' Opt-In on Copilot+ PCs Amid Security Concerns
Jun 7, 2024, 04:12 PM
Microsoft has announced significant changes to its controversial Windows 11 'Recall' feature following widespread criticism from security experts and users. The Recall feature, part of the Copilot+ PCs, takes screenshots of users’ activities every few seconds and stores them in a plaintext database, raising serious privacy and security concerns. Critics highlighted that the data could be easily accessed by hackers using tools like 'Total Recall'. In response, Microsoft will now make Recall an opt-in feature, require Windows Hello biometric authentication for access, and encrypt the stored data. These changes aim to address the security flaws and restore user trust. The updated feature is set to roll out on June 18th.
