VisitMicrosoft Enhances Windows Recall Security for Copilot+ PCs
Sep 27, 2024, 05:06 PM
Microsoft has announced significant upgrades to its controversial Windows Recall feature, aimed at addressing privacy and security concerns. The AI tool, which creates a record of user activity on PCs, will now store data in an encrypted VBS Enclave and automatically filter out sensitive information such as passwords, credit card details, and national IDs. Additionally, the feature will require Windows Hello verification and can be uninstalled if users choose. These changes come after criticism that Recall posed a privacy risk and was an attractive target for hackers. David Weston, head of enterprise and OS security at Microsoft, emphasized that the updates make Recall an opt-in experience, backed by virtualization-based security. The updates are specifically for Copilot+ PCs.
