May 22, 2024, 07:42 PM
Michigan has reported a human case of H5N1 bird flu in a farm worker who had exposure to dairy cows, marking the second such case in the United States linked to an outbreak in dairy cattle. The farm worker experienced mild symptoms, including an eye infection, and has since recovered. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the case and emphasized that the risk to the general public remains low. This is the third human case of H5N1 bird flu ever reported in the U.S., with a similar case previously reported in Texas. The infection was detected through a positive eye swab test, while respiratory samples were negative.
