VisitMichael Rulli Wins Ohio 6th District Special Election in Tight Trump +29 District, 4.4 Point Margin
Jun 12, 2024, 01:02 AM
Michael Rulli (R) has won the Ohio 6th Congressional District special election, defeating Democrat Michael Kripchak. The race, held in a district that former President Trump won by 29 points, saw an unexpectedly close margin. Rulli, a state senator, spent approximately $700,000 on his campaign, while Kripchak, a former waiter and Air Force vet who quit his job to campaign, spent $25,000. With 65% of the vote counted, the race was a 4.4 point contest, significantly narrower than the previous 35-point victory by Bill Johnson in 2022. Turnout was notably low, with Rulli receiving only 12% of Trump's 2020 vote total in Harrison County. Kripchak posted a 15 point overperformance.
