VisitMiami Fires Defensive Coordinator Lance Guidry After 10-3 Season, Misses ACC Championship
Dec 31, 2024, 04:00 PM
The University of Miami has fired its defensive coordinator, Lance Guidry, after two seasons, following a disappointing end to the 2024 season. The decision was announced by head coach Mario Cristobal, who expressed gratitude for Guidry's contributions but stated the need for a change to improve the program. Miami's defense struggled, ranking 68th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 25.3 points per game, and only registering 18 takeaways in 13 games. Despite a strong start with a 9-0 record, the Hurricanes ended the season at 10-3 but lost three of their final four games, including a 42-38 loss to Syracuse that cost them a spot in the ACC Championship Game and a likely College Football Playoff berth. In the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Miami lost 42-41 to Iowa State, allowing 42 points in each of their last two games. The team's offense was led by quarterback Cam Ward, who set school records with 39 touchdown passes, 305 completions, and 4,313 yards. Miami ranked 27th nationally in yards allowed per game. The team is now looking to replace Guidry and has reportedly begun conversations with potential candidates.
