VisitMiami-Dade Renames Hialeah's Palm Avenue to 'President Donald J. Trump Avenue' After Historic GOP Win
Dec 3, 2024, 06:34 PM
Miami-Dade County in Florida has officially approved the renaming of Palm Avenue in Hialeah to 'President Donald J. Trump Avenue.' The Miami-Dade County Commission, despite a Democratic majority, endorsed the co-designation after a proposal from Hialeah, a city with nearly 75% Cuban/Cuban American residents and one of the largest Hispanic populations per capita in the U.S. This decision comes after Trump won Miami-Dade County by 11 points in the 2024 presidential election, marking the first time since 1988 that a Republican presidential candidate secured victory in the historically Democratic stronghold. Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera stated, 'Today, we ratified the City of Hialeah’s initiative to honor President Trump’s legacy of championing freedom and opportunity.' Commissioner Marleine Bastien was the sole dissenting vote. Trump reportedly signed one of the street signs while attending a memorial in the area. The approval took place on Tuesday. The avenue is considered a vital artery in the community, and the renaming is seen as a tribute to President Trump's impact on the region.
