Mets Sign 31-Year-Old Left-Handed Reliever A.J. Minter to Two-Year, $22 Million Deal with Opt-Out
Jan 17, 2025, 08:02 PM
The New York Mets have reached an agreement with free-agent left-handed reliever A.J. Minter on a two-year, $22 million contract, pending a physical. The 31-year-old Minter, who previously spent time with the Atlanta Braves, posted a 3.28 ERA across 384 relief appearances and was part of the 2021 World Series championship team. The deal includes an opt-out clause after the first year, allowing Minter to return to free agency. Minter, who underwent left hip surgery in 2024 but still managed a 2.62 ERA, is expected to bolster the Mets' bullpen, joining closer Edwin Diaz. The signing comes as the Mets continue to reshape their roster, having recently signed outfielder Jesse Winker to a one-year deal.
