Meta Unveils Orion AR Glasses with Holographic Displays at Meta Connect 2024

Meta has unveiled its first fully functional augmented reality (AR) glasses, named Orion, at the Meta Connect 2024 conference. Orion is described as the most advanced AR glasses ever made, featuring holographic displays, eye, hand, and neural tracking, and a wrist-based neural interface. The glasses are lightweight, weighing under 100 grams, and offer a 70-degree field of view. Orion also includes Micro LED projectors and silicon carbide lenses. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased the glasses, emphasizing their potential to replace smartphones and integrate seamlessly into daily life. Orion's AI capabilities, powered by Meta AI, allow for multimodal interactions, including video calls with lifelike avatars and contextual AI responses. The development of Orion represents nearly a decade of research and development by Meta, aiming to create a new personal computing platform.
