VisitMeta to Launch AI-Generated Accounts on Facebook and Instagram to Boost Engagement
Jan 2, 2025, 04:34 PM
Meta Platforms Inc. is set to introduce AI-generated user accounts on its social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. These AI accounts will mimic human users by generating and sharing content, as well as interacting with other users. The initiative aims to enhance user engagement and make the platforms more entertaining. According to Connor Hayes, Meta's Vice President of Product for Generative AI, these AI profiles will have bios and profile pictures, similar to regular user accounts. Meta has been developing various AI tools, including the Meta AI assistant, and plans to roll out new features like Movie Gen, which allows content creators to alter their videos using generative AI. The company has already tested AI character creation tools in the US since July, with hundreds of thousands of characters created through AI Studio, which also enables the development of personalized chatbots for content creators. This move is part of Meta's broader strategy to keep pace with competitors like TikTok and X, though it raises concerns about potential misinformation and the quality of AI-generated content.
