Meta Platforms has canceled plans for a premium mixed-reality headset, which was intended to compete with Apple's Vision Pro. The device, codenamed La Jolla, was slated for release in 2027 and was to feature ultrahigh-resolution micro OLED screens. The decision to halt development was made after a product review meeting attended by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other top executives. The high cost of the displays was a contributing factor in the decision to cancel the project. Meta plans to use the developed display and eye tracking features in other devices.
