VisitMenendez Brothers Granted Resentencing Hearing as LA DA Reviews New Abuse Evidence
Oct 3, 2024, 10:40 PM
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced Thursday that his office is reviewing the convictions and sentences of Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 1996 for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills mansion. The review is prompted by new evidence, including allegations of molestation by their father, which may support the brothers' claims made during their trial. Gascón stated that his office has received numerous calls advocating for the brothers' release and noted that if tried today, there might be a greater understanding of abuse and its effects on victims. A resentencing hearing has been scheduled for November 29. The case has garnered renewed attention following the success of the Netflix series "Monsters," which has highlighted the brothers' allegations and brought new evidence to light.
