VisitMenendez Brothers' 2025 Resentencing Set After First Court Appearance in 28 Years
Nov 25, 2024, 08:23 PM
Erik and Lyle Menendez, now aged 53 and 56, appeared in court together on Monday for the first time in 28 years, seeking resentencing that could lead to their release. The brothers, convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents in 1989, are making a new bid for freedom based on new evidence, including allegations of sexual abuse by their father that were not presented at their original trial. Judge Michael Jesic postponed the resentencing hearing until January 30-31, 2025, to allow the incoming Los Angeles District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, to review the case. The brothers' aunts testified on their behalf, supporting their plea for a new sentence. Renewed interest in their case has been sparked by a recent Netflix series.
