VisitMcDonald's Ends AI Drive-Thru Order Test with IBM by July 26 at 100 Restaurants
Jun 17, 2024, 10:45 PM
McDonald's has decided to end its two-year experiment with AI-powered drive-thru order-taking technology developed in partnership with IBM. The fast-food giant plans to remove the technology from over 100 restaurants by July 26, following numerous customer complaints and viral mishaps, such as orders being misinterpreted and resulting in errors like adding bacon to ice cream. The technology, which has been in testing since 2021, showed mixed results. Despite the termination of this specific AI initiative, McDonald's remains open to exploring other voice-ordering solutions in the future.
