VisitMcDonald's Addresses 40% Price Hike Claims Since 2019
May 30, 2024, 01:52 AM
McDonald's has responded to viral reports and social media claims suggesting that its prices have increased by more than 100% since 2019. In an open letter, Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald's USA, clarified that the average price of a Big Mac in the U.S. has risen by 21%, from $4.39 in 2019 to $5.29 in 2024. He also noted that the average price of McDonald's menu items has increased by around 40% over the same period, attributing these hikes to inflationary pressures such as increased supply chain costs and wages. The price of a Big Mac meal has increased by 27%, a 10-piece McNuggets meal by 28%, and medium fries by 44%. Erlinger emphasized that reports of an $18 Big Mac meal are exceptions and not reflective of the overall pricing strategy. The company remains committed to providing value and affordability to its customers.
