Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell has been appointed as the new chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). McDonnell, who has a long history with the LAPD, having graduated from the LAPD Academy and worked up to Assistant Chief, also served as Chief of Long Beach Police Department and LA County Sheriff.
