VisitMayor Brandon Johnson Unveils Sidewalk Snow Removal Plan for Four Areas
May 31, 2024, 04:34 PM
Mayor Brandon Johnson unveiled a plan on Friday to test whether city crews should be responsible for clearing not just Chicago’s roads but also its sidewalks during winter storms. The plan, part of a yearlong effort dubbed #plowthesidewalks, aims to provide free sidewalk snow removal services in four areas of the city. The pilot program, set to start in 2025, will cost between $1.1 million and $3.5 million for private contracting. However, the plan must be approved and funded by the Chicago City Council by next winter. The program will offer free snow clearing services.
